A studio in a village where Mount Ararat stands on the horizon. Clay is shaped here by hand and painted one piece at a time – and anyone who walks through the door is welcome to sit down at the workbench and make something of their own.
Gohar Petrosyan is an Armenian artist and ceramicist living and working in the village of Hatsik, in the Shirak region of Armenia.
Her artistic world is shaped by a deep appreciation for nature, the character of the Armenian landscape, and the expressive possibilities of working with different materials.
Through painting and ceramics, Gohar explores colour, texture, form, and the small details that make everyday life beautiful. Her work reflects a personal connection to the natural world and a desire to express that connection through art.
Gohar starts by rolling out a slab and showing what clay will and will not do. From there you build: a house with a roof, a bird, a figure in national dress, a tree with birds in the branches.
You start with a sheet, a pencil and a few colours. Gohar teaches the way she paints – the pale washes first, the detail at the end, and no fear of the paper.
Perfect for or children, families, school groups and travellers.
You sit down with a piece, a brush and a tray of colours. Gohar shows you how paint behaves on fired clay – where it sinks in, where it sits on the surface – and then leaves you to work.
A relaxed and fun atmosphere: learn, laugh, and create.
One long room, filled corner to corner. Paintings on the walls, clay figures on the shelves, and enough space between them to stop and look. The tour moves through the watercolours, the painted plates, the figures in national dress and the shelves that carry the smaller work.
Angels, ceramic paintings and painted landscapes – shaped, fired and signed in the studio in Hatsik. Every piece is one of a kind.
Every plate, angel and figure is modelled and painted one at a time. No two ever come out the same.
Families, school groups and travellers sit down at the same workbench. No experience needed - only clean hands.
5 3rd str., 1 house, Hatsik 2614, Armenia. Tell us when you would like to come and how many of you there are - we will have the table, the clay and the paints ready.
Rooted in the landscapes and creative traditions of Armenia, Gohar’s work is an invitation to look more closely at the world around us.

Gohar Petrosyan grew up in Hatsik, a village where Mount Ararat stands on the horizon and every yard blooms in spring. That landscape never left her work — stone houses and blossoming yards, a shepherd with his flute, a grandmother at the mortar, the first snow over the village.
Today she leads the art centre that carries her name, and teaches at the same table where she works.
